5 easy and exciting day trips from Paris

Paris is an exciting destination that features in countless lists of top places to visit. The romance of the city is renowned. As is its art, culture, history, architecture and food, making it one of the most popular bases for English language au pairs and French language learners.

The capital city of France has so much to do and see. But those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of Paris will find many easy and exciting day trips just a stone’s throw away.

Disneyland

Be a big kid again by visiting the most magical place on earth. Disneyland Paris is easily accessible from Paris. Marne-la-Vallée Chessy (where Disneyland Paris is based) is located just one hour away from central Paris by train. You can travel by bus and car also. Disneyland is the perfect place for a day trip as Dale from Wander Her Way details:

“So while you need at least a few days to a week for Disney World in Florida, you can easily do all of Disneyland Paris in just one day! Of course, if you really want to spend more time at the parks, you could do an overnight trip. Every time I have been to Disneyland Paris, I’ve just gone for a day trip and I’ve had plenty of time to do everything I wanted to do.  I do recommend getting to the parks right when they open and taking the last train out after the parks close.”

Versailles

Experience history at its most opulent by visiting Versailles. The palace was the official residence of French royalty from 1682. Versailles is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its Hall of Mirrors just one of the stunning highlights of the magnificent palace.

As well as being home to a world famous palace, the surrounding suburb offers lots to do. The area’s top flight restaurants and bars are just a few reasons to extend your trip beyond your visit to the palace. And it’s under an hour away from Paris by train or car.

Giverny

Located just under 50 miles northwest of Paris, the small village of Giverny has become a world famous landmark thanks to one artist. Impressionist painter Claude Monet lived and created some of his most famous works here over a 43-year period. Giverny has been a popular haunt for visitors and fellow artists ever since, with Monet’s Gardens and House a must-see.

But there’s more to Giverny too. The town itself boasts plenty of country charm making it the perfect place for a stroll. Giverny is also home to the Museum of Impressionism, plus a number of private galleries set up by modern day impressionist artists who were inspired to visit by Monet.

Provins

Known for its medieval fairs, UNESCO World Heritage Site Provins is every history buff’s dream. The town is based in Île-de-France, which lies around 90 minutes southeast of Paris. A visit to Provins is a trip back in time with fascinating history and heritage at every turn. The town is beautifully preserved with many medieval sights, including 12th century castle La Tour Cesar.

Champagne region

To the east of Paris, you’ll find the Champagne region. You can visit Champagne all year round. Summer in France provides great weather for exploring its many vineyards, spring prime time for wildflower viewing and autumn the time to celebrate its annual harvest.

As the capital of Champagne, Reims is home to several champagne houses. World-famous Mumm, Piper-Heidsieck and Taittinger all offer tastings here.
