Searching for a language stay holiday for your family group
Lingoo offers language homestays for children, teenagers and adults traveling alone or with a family group. You can search all Lingoo members’ profiles on line without being a member yourself. Simply use the search form that appears on several pages of our site.
Lingoo offers three great ways to enjoy a language stay:
- Language exchange – a two way immersion stay organised between Group Members where both offer hospitality to each other’s family group. Read more about a language exchange.
- Stay with a Host Family Member – your family group can live and eat with a Host Family for an authentic language and culture homestay. Read more about staying with a host family.
- Staying with a Teacher Member – a paid immersion stay in the home of a Teacher for structured language lessons. Read more about staying in the home of a teacher
To contact a Lingoo member and book a stay for yourself and your family group, you need to join Lingoo as a Group Member.
This is how it works:
Use the search tool to select your target language and your preferred stay option (language exchange, paid stay with a Host Family or paid stay with a Teacher). Next, refine your search by choosing the criteria most important to you.
Your search results appear with the most recently updated profiles at the top. Simply click ‘View this profile’ to see the profile in detail.
If you are logged on as a Group Member, you can now either contact members directly or save their profiles in ‘My Selection’ to contact them later. To save the profile to ‘My Selection’, click ‘Add to selection’.
You can also set up an alert to receive notification when a new profile matching your criteria goes live. Find out how to set up an alert here [LINK to setting up alerts].
A language exchange takes place between two Group Members who offer reciprocal hospitality to each other’s family group. Your family group stays with your exchange partner’s family, enjoying their lifestyle while improving the language all day. The exchange partner’s family group become your guest at a later date, staying in your home, for exactly the same benefits.
After checking that your family group and your exchange partner’s family are a good match, spend time getting to know each other through our secure messaging system. Explore your interests and lifestyle and ensure that you have compatible personalities.

A language homestay is a relatively new way to travel while learning or improving your foreign language skills. You can either stay with a Host Family for a language and cultural immersion experience or book a stay in the home of a Teacher for more formal, structured lessons. In both cases, your Lingoo host provides accommodation and meals and, depending upon how you would like to learn, a fast and effective way to eat sleep and breathe the language.
Before making contact with a Host Family or Teacher read their profile thoroughly to make sure they offer exactly what you are looking for from your homestay. Take time to read through the activities and services they offer as well as checking how many guests they may host at any one time. Read through the evaluations left on the Host Family or Teacher by other members. Ask the Host Family or Teacher to share their Credentials file. Read more about the Credentials file here.

When all aspects of the stay have been discussed and agreed with your partner member, you can make a reservation by clicking ‘Confirm a Stay’. There are two different reservation processes for language exchanges and paid stays. You can find out more about the reservation process for paid stays here. More information on the reservation process for language exchanges can be found here.
