How much do you get paid for hosting foreign exchange students?
As a host family on Lingoo you set your own prices and choose who stays in your home. Lingoo does not have a set price to pay host families and it is up to you to judge how much your rented room, food, activity package and any other services such as an airport pick up, is worth and the prices you charge.
Publishing your profile on Lingoo is a little like advertising directly to thousands of Lingoo Members. Think of Lingoo as your “shop window” and try to make your profile as appealing as possible to potential members. Read more about becoming a host family or homestay teacher.
The best way to decide how much to charge is to search through the other Lingoo host family members on the site. Look for other host families that live in a similar town or city to you and see what they are charging students to stay with them. Foreign students are interested in staying with hosts who live in the city or in the countryside, it really depends on the student. Click here to search through other Lingoo host families.
Other important factors in determining the price you charge foreign exchange students include the size the room you will be renting, access to a bathroom and the general condition of your home. Hosts with good access to a local airport or train station should mention this in their published profile to attract more student guests.
Remember that you can join Lingoo completely free of charge and without any long-term commitment. On Lingoo you can work whenever you want, making it a very flexible way to earn additional income from your spare room. The busy season for foreign students is between January and August each year, but many students also follow the school year so they are looking for a long term host family for most of the year.
